Crock-Pot Chili Lime Chicken Wings Recipe

Believe it or not, I’ve never cooked chicken wings before. *Gasp* I know, weird, right? Making them hadn’t crossed my mind, but then for Memorial Day I thought it would be fun to make something BBQ-ish. Currently chicken is not on my safe foods list, I think because of what most chickens are fed (corn and/or soy), but a few times a year I try to trial new chickens that I find, to see if any of them are safe. I miss eating chicken! I was given the opportunity to try Greensbury Market’s Organic Chicken Wings, so I thought this would be a good time to trial chicken again.

I scoured the web trying to figure out how to cook these bad boys, but not able to find a safe recipe, decided to create my own. My Crock-Pot Chili Lime Chicken Wings have been inspired by Tyler Florence’s chicken wings recipe. The recipe I made doesn’t have your typical barbeque sauce, but they still turned out delicious none-the-less. It was seriously one of the easiest recipes I have ever made! And since they’re made in the crock-pot, they are great for days when you’re going to be out of the house most of the day or for when you need a simple recipe to stun guests at a party.

One a side note about the wings – don’t be scared off by the word chili. These wings are not spicy – I would consider them less than slightly mild. If you would like spicy wings, just double the paprika and/or cayenne.

Ingredients:

2lbs organic chicken wings

¼ cup ghee (You could also use butter or coconut oil.)

juice of 1 lime

1 tablespoon ground mustard

1/2 tablespoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon paprika

1/4 teaspoon cayenne

Making It:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients in a crock-pot.
  2. Cook on low for about 3 hours, or until cooked through.

That’s it. See, I told you it was easy to make :) I think that even if the sauce I used turned out to be bad, the wings still would have tasted good, merely for the fact that Greensbury Market’s chicken is that good. They also sell beef and pork if you’re not a fan of chicken. And especially for my readers you can get 15% off by clicking here.

  2. Should I use melted butter or just solid one??

    • I broke it into pieces, put it in to the crock-pot solid, and let it melt as it cooked. You can stir part way through, if you want, to mix it all together if it’s not doing so on its own.
