20 Paleo Snack Recipes For A Successful Road Trip

<Make sure you enter the giveaway at the bottom of this post>

With the school year coming to a close and summer quickly arriving (can’t believe winter is already over), road trips will soon be in full swing. If you’re anything like me, you plan and plan and plan until you think your brain might explode from all of the research and lists.

Over the past few years of traveling with a child, I’ve learned quite a few things about how to make the process as easy as possible. One that sticks out is the importance of food and drinks, whether we’re traveling by car or plane, especially when some of the travelers have food allergies. I can bring all the toys and games I want, but if I don’t have something for my 5 year old to eat and drink, well then we’re flat out doomed.

Our go-to drink options are always juice and water, with water being preferable. I like to choose an organic juice box (Honest Kids Organic is typically what I go with) and bring a handful of them along for when he’s sick of his snacks. Somehow I am able to pass juice off as a treat for him once he gets restless. For water, I always use a no-spill water bottle for our son. Although it tends to be heavier than disposable water bottles, the fact that there are way less chemicals and that he can’t spill it win out. My favorite is Contigo’s AUTOSEAL® Gizmo Sip Kids Water Bottle. It’s BPA-free and considerably light-weight for a reusable water bottle.

It’s a commonly known fact in my family that whether we’re on an airplane or in a car, the water bottle always falls or rolls over somewhere. Having a true no-spill bottle is necessary. This water bottle automatically seals after sips, so when I say true no-spill, you can be assured that there have, in fact, been zero spills. All my son has to do is open the mouth piece, press a button to drink, then once he’s done it closes on it’s own. This way, I not only don’t have to worry about spills, but I also don’t have to worry about dirt getting in.

To be honest, though, the no-spill isn’t even my favorite part. The water bottle has no straw or little parts to worry about. It is literally the easiest water bottle I’ve ever cleaned – and we’ve gone through about 30 different kinds, so I have plenty to compare the Contigo bottle to. In addition to all of this, the water bottle also has a carrying handle, which means my son can carry it on his own – one less thing for me to have to fill my bag with.

Overall, I would say the only negative to the water bottle is that my son has a little bit of trouble pressing down the button to drink. But, practice makes perfect, right :)

In addition to water and juice, snacks are also a necessity for traveling. I’ve compiled a list of 20 gluten-free and Paleo recipes that are all super easy to make and will all travel well.

What are some of your favorite homemade travel snacks?
